It was time to venture outside of London and visit other historic places that have impacted the world. One is the University of Cambridge, founded in 1209. Their alumni include scholarly legends such as Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, and Stephen Hawking.
The current king, Charles III, went there. Word on the street says that when he applied, he was denied due to only having a B average. Imagine a college so prestigious it could reject a future king! However, Queen Elizabeth II gently encouraged them to reconsider. They did. He pursued my own passions by studying archaeology and history.
This is what the town looks like.
This is Trinity College Chapel completed in 1567 and The Eagle, where the discovery of DNA was announced.
One Cambridge tradition is punting. A punt is a flat bottom boat for shallow rivers. The punter stands at the back and propels the craft by pushing a long pole against the bottom. The River Cam runs through town and passes many scenic spots, so the college students offer guide services for tourists.
Before I left, I found what I was seeking: the best archaeology department in the world. My grades haven't always been the best, so I was hoping to follow the example of King Charles. Perhaps my mother could call and gently encourage them to accept me too?
